The drinks are on the house

Having a home bar might seem a little indulgent but it’s actually quite achievable and in this blog, we’ve got some ideas for how you might be able to incorporate one into your own kitchen.

Whether you’re into sipping an Old Fashioned fireside or sharing a bottle of Sancerre on the terrace, you don’t even need to leave your home to have a night to remember. We’ve created dream bars for many clients and Dekton is the perfect material to work with.

Dekton is a high-performance, ultra-compact surface and is resistant to stains, scratches and heat (flaming cocktail fans take note). And with thickness from 4mm-12mm, it can be used to create stunning countertops and clad cabinets.

Here’s some popular trends and how you can get the look at home.

Dark and stormy

  • Choose an unloved corner or alcove and use this empty space to create a moody, atmospheric space.
  • Go for dark countertop material such as Dekton Laurent, a marble-inspired background with golden veins or softer Dekton Somnia with subtle brown veins.
  • Echo your chosen countertop with coordinating cabinets.
  • For added drama, choose gold or brass hardware such as handles.

Speakeasy style

  • To add to a sense of secrecy, play with concealed cabinets and storage so the bar is only ‘open’ when you choose it to be and hidden from view the rest of the time.
  • Dekton Trilium which is inspired by volcanic stones would be a great choice here and it’s created with up to 80% recycled materials so it’s greener, too. Industrial-inspired Dekton Soke would also be a good look.
  • Handless drawers and cabinets would fit the theme perfectly once again, adding to the sense of mystery.

Take it outside

  • Many dream of having an outdoor bar and why not? Summer is the perfect time for lounging with a drink in hand. Dekton can be used inside and out so perhaps this year is the year to make it happen?
  • Opt for a waterfall edge profile for added effect and consider incorporating an outdoor kitchen if budget allows.
  • Choose any shade you fancy – all Dekton materials are UV resistant so no need to worry about fading.

Perfectly curated

  • Want your collection of spirits to really shine or have some vintage cocktail glasses to show off? Incorporate glass-fronted cabinets and accent lighting for a pure touch of luxury.
  • Opt for a more unusual pattern such as Dekton Laos which delivers a contemporary look while still being easy to keep clean.
  • Consider different edge profiles to create a more sculptured looking countertop – double bullnose is a popular choice for high-end bars.
